Stott Pilates is a safe, effective and fun exercise that can be modified for all bodies and abilities. Attending a pilates class regularly reduces back pain, improves posture and strengthens and tones muscles.
The Stott Pilates method has its roots in the Classical pilates, or 'Contrology' repertoire, created byJoseph Pilates. Stott is a more contemporary pilates method than the one created in the 1920's. As well as drawing on the classical concepts, Stott pilates includes the modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation.
Strength and Flexibility
Stott Pilates has an emphasis on building core strength, spinal flexibility and body awareness, as well as encouraging mindfulness as we move through the exercises.
Equipment
Stott Pilates uses props, or small equipment, such as the flex band, small stability ball and pilates fitness circle to modify, or create more of a challenge with some exercises.
After 11 years of practising Pilates I decided to train to teach the Stott Method.
The birth of my second child led me to Pilates, initially for the post pregnancy physical benefits, but I quickly became aware of other wellbeing gains, in particular the mindfulness that came with the movement. Pilates still gives me this mind body connection.
When I'm not doing Pilates I spend time with my children, family, friends and a small furry rescue dog.
